National University of Ireland in Galway – Merriott Case Study

National University of Ireland in Galway has most recently improved their extensive collection of buildings by renovating and refurbishing the former IMI (Irish Metal Industries) factory into a new drama, theatre and performance centre.

The €4.65m construction consists of a 120 seat auditorium, teaching facilities, backstage area and a public foyer with box office and bar. Located adjacent to the Bank of Ireland Theatre and Bailey Allen Hall, the drama centre is nestled perfectly for the students. The building, dating back to the 1850s, is a protected structure and has served as both a pram and munitions factory before being converted into the IMI factory in the 1930s.

Gordon Biesty of KD Group approached commercial heating specialists Merriott when searching to meet the heating requirements for the build. Merriott’s bespoke radiator range fit the bill perfectly –  supplying 17 horizontal Precisions and 35 vertical Precisions in an array of white and grey colours as well as 2 Smart HD Radiant Panels – measuring 7 metres long – for the theatre ceiling.

Damien Parker, Area Sales Manager says: “It was a pleasure to work with Gordon and KD Group on the refurbishment of such a prestigious building. Our Precisions and Radiant Panels are the perfect fit for the new centre – both stylish and high-performing.”
